Following his Oscar-winning role in 2014’s Whiplash, J.K. Simmons will headline the Starz espionage thriller Counterpart. As Deadline first reported, the series comes from Justin Marks, whom Disney tapped to write the screenplay for The Jungle Book. Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game) is set to direct the first two episodes.

Simmons will play Harold Silk/Prime, a “lowly cog in a bureaucratic UN agency, turning the last corner of a life filled with regret, when he discovers the agency he works for is guarding a secret: a crossing to a parallel dimension,” according to the show’s log line.

The supernatural drama will be executive produced by Marks and Tyldum as well as Anonymous Content’s Bard Dorros and Keith Redmon, and Gilbert Films’ Jordan Horowitz and Gary Gilbert.
