Joanna Levesque—the singer better known as JoJo—made waves in pop and R&B when she emerged in 2004 at the age of 13. Her first two albums both landed in the Billboard 200’s top four, but legal disputes with her label forced her out of the musical spotlight. (JoJo claimed she was no longer bound by a contract she signed as a minor.)

Now she’s stepping back into the ring. The singer ended a drought today with the release of “Far From Heaven,” a stellar ballad that was worth the wait. (Okay, maybe not worth the whole wait.) JoJo’s previous hits like “Too Little, Too Late” were poppy and highly produced; “Far From Heaven” is a sparse song that underscores JoJo’s voice with only a piano. That voice sounds better than ever.

JoJo issued a cryptic response on Instagram:

The “Far From Heaven” stream has been removed from JoJo’s official Soundcloud.

Correction: An earlier version of this story stated that “Far From Heaven” was JoJo’s first new music since 2006. JoJo has released two mixtapes and one EP since her last studio album was released in 2006. EW regrets the error.
