Bruce Jenner’s two-hour interview with Diane Sawyer airs later this month, and some have speculated the former Olympian will be discussing a rumored transition from male to female—but whatever happens, Jeffrey Tambor supports Jenner.

“I think Jenner has a right to do what Jenner wants to do,” Tambor, who plays a transgender woman on Amazon’s Transparent, told The Hollywood Reporter. “I don’t think we should say, ‘Oh, you have to come out this way, or you have to come out this way.’ It’s not fair. I wish Jenner happiness and an authentic life. Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness—that’s in the Constitution, damnit!”

Tambor went on to further defend Jenner’s choices. “I think the more light and education there is about all of this is important,” he said. “But I think people go, ‘Oh, I hope Jenner does it right.’ You know, Jenner can do it the way Jenner wants to do it. If [Jenner] wants to do it making a documentary, then do it.”

Bruce Jenner—The Interview airs April 24 at 9 p.m. on ABC.
