Milo Ventimiglia will make the jump from hero to villain tonight when he heads to Gotham as a charismatic yet terrifying serial killer named Jason “The Ogre” Lennon.

Sharing the same name as the DC Comics character, Ventimiglia’s version will be just as ugly—on the inside. In order to get into the mind of the twisted villain, Ventimiglia researched real-life serial killers and found inspiration in Ted Bundy.

“[People] would always talk about how charming he was,” he told EW. “But ultimately, he was a very dark individual that was looking for possession—like completely owning a woman, her thoughts, her body, any of that. I was trying to understand why people do that and I don’t think there’s any real understanding of why.”

Ventimiglia’s multi-episode arc, which begins April 13 with “Beasts of Prey,” finds detectives James Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue) hot on the Ogre’s trail after investigating a cold case. Things will get complicated as Lennon doesn’t just target young women, he also goes after the loved ones of those who dare to pursue him.
