John Legend is set to executive produce a new Pitch Perfect-inspired reality series from Pop entitled Sing it On. Sing it On follows five collegiate a cappella teams as they compete to take the top spot at the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA).

The Grammy and Oscar-winning artist performed with an a cappella group while attending the University of Pennsylvania, with his team making it all the way to the ICCA finals at Carnegie Hall in 1997.

“I had so much fun singing a cappella in college,” Legend said in a release. “The music, the friendships, the competitions were all a huge part of my college experience. We’re excited to be a part of a show that documents the real ups and downs of this interesting world that many know nothing about. It’s going to be an interesting journey, and I look forward to being a part of it.”

Along with Legend’s Get Lifted Film Co., CORE Media Group, the co-producers of American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance, will also serve as producers for the show. The series will feature eight one-hour episodes.

Sing it On premieres Wednesday, May 13 at 10 p.m. ET, and its regular time slot will be on Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET beginning on May 20 on Pop.
