Ad-Rock from Beastie Boys wants to be on 'Walking Dead'
Could Rick Grimes and Daryl Dixon be getting some help from a hip-hop legend when The Walking Dead returns for season 6 in October? The answer is an emphatic YES if Beastie Boy Ad-Rock (a.k.a. Adam Horovitz) has anything to say about it. Horovitz made his return to acting recently, starring alongside Ben Stiller and Naomi Watts in While We’re Young (in theaters now), and when he stopped by Entertainment Weekly Radio (SiriusXM, channel 105) he talked with Jessica Shaw and yours truly about other types of projects in which he would love to act. And then the conversation turned to AMC’s zombie drama.
“I f—ing love that show,” says Horowitz. “Every moment of that show.… I would love to be in The Walking Dead.” But the man has some conditions. “I don’t want to be a zombie,” says Horovitz. “I want to be like [Daryl’s] friend from the city. Like a distant relative—‘He’s my uncle’s friend from New York.’ They’re not going to have that, are they? I’d show up with like a PBS tote bag and something from Zabar’s—be like, ‘Hey, I got lox! Who wants bagels?’”
Okay, while that does sound a bit far-fetched, keep in mind that Ad-Rock does actually have some pretty solid zombie-slaying credentials courtesy of the Beastie Boys’ “Don’t Play No Game That I Can’t Win” video in which he—or at least a G.I. Joe Ad-Rock action figure— beheads a zombie…and while hanging out of a helicopter no, less. That sounds like just the type of guy Daryl should be out recruiting!
But Horowitz does not stop there. He also wants to become an action movie star and has just the character in mind to play. Listen to the SoundCloud clip below to hear all about it as well as his big Walking Dead pitch.
