The Weinstein Company has acquired the rights to the Matthew McConaughey-starring Gold.
The film is inspired by the true story of the 1993 Bre-X Mineral Corporation mining scandal, during which large quantities of gold were reported to have been discovered in the jungle of Indonesia.
McConaughey plays a failing businessman and prospector who joins a down-on-his-luck geologist/explorer (Edgar Ramirez) on a journey into the Indonesian jungle on a hunt for undiscovered gold.
Stephen Gaghan (Syriana) is on board to direct from a script penned by Patrick Massett & John Zinman.
