The singer Gallant has a taste for experimental sounds that’s led to him being filed as an “alternative R&B” artist. But with its blend of bedroom-friendly low-end throb and soaring falsetto vocals, his single “Open Up” proves that Gallant also has a firm grasp of the genre’s time-tested fundamentals.

The track is streaming on Spotify, and will appear on the EP he’ll drop later this summer on the Mind of a Genius label. Today, Gallant is also unveiling an elegantly simple and sensuous video that he co-directed with ME, which makes use of the most classic element of R&B ballad videos: the rain machine.
