The History channel has renewed scripted series Vikings for its fourth season, the channel announced Thursday.
The announcement comes with five new episodes remaining in the current season.
According to a statement, Vikings is averaging 4.3 million total viewers.
“Vikings is a tremendous success worldwide thanks to the visionary talents of Michael Hirst, the entire creative team and our partners at History,” said Roma Khanna, President, Television Group and Digital, MGM. “We look forward to entertaining audiences worldwide with the next epic season.”
The show, which began airing on History in 2013, depicts the life and adventures of a band of brothers in the Dark Ages who become King of the Viking tribes. Travis Fimmel, Clive Standen, and Gustaf Skarsgård star in the drama.
The next season will begin filming in Ireland this spring.
