Jennifer Lawrence will leave X-Men after 'X-Men: Apocalypse'
Sad news for X-Men fans: Jennifer Lawrence, who plays Mystique in the rebooted franchise, has confirmed that X-Men: Apocalypse will be the last time she dons that scaly, blue body makeup to play the shape-shifting mutant.
In an interview with MTV News about her new film Serena, Lawrence said of X-Men: Apocalypse: “It’s my last one, actually.” She did not elaborate further.
Of course, with a title like Apocalypse, we can’t expect all our favorite mutants to survive. Director Bryan Singer announced in January that three new actors will assume the roles of three major mutants: Sophie Turner of Game of Thrones will play Jean Grey; Tye Sheridan (of The Tree of Life and Joe) will play Cyclops; and Alexandra Shipp (Aaliyah in Lifetime’s biopic) will play Storm.
X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters May 27, 2016, so we’ve got well over a year to prepare for Lawrence’s exit. I’m going to need all of it.
