It’s been 12 years since Joe Millionaire, the reality show that enlisted Evan Marriott to trick 20 women into believing that he was a lovable millionaire, only to reveal that he was in fact a construction worker. At the end of it all, Marriott seemed to find love with Zora Andrich, after which the couple split a $1 million prize. (So he wasn’t a total liar.)

After the show ended, Marriott’s romance with Andrich didn’t last. Since then, he’s kept his distance from the limelight.

But on Thursday, Marriott—whose hair has moved from his head to his face over the past 12 years—made an appearance at WE tv Presents: The Evolution of Relationship Reality Shows panel. There, the construction worker, who’s now 40, told People that after the show, “I started a business for myself, and everything is great. I did my first job … I got it and literally almost was in tears. I called my dad and said, ‘I feel like I’ve just been paroled. This is where I should have been.'”

Does that mean there’s no hope for our next great idea: Joe Millionaire 2.0: Joe Billionaire?
