Alexandre Desplat, finally an Oscar winner, will provide the score for the Star Wars spin-off Rogue One, according to Film Music Reporter. Desplat discussed this task in an interview with Radio Classique’s Culture Club

Disney announced last week that the title of Gareth Edwards’ Star Wars spin-off would be Rogue One and that the film would star Felicity Jones. Desplat composed the music for Edwards’ Godzilla

This is not the first time Desplat has built on John Williams’ work. He scored the final two installments of the Harry Potter franchise. In an interview with EW earlier this year Desplat talked about the impact of Williams’ work: “When I heard for the first time the first Star Wars by John Williams that was the moment I felt there was something there about the way John Williams was capable of not only writing incredible music, capture the epic of a story, but also to summarize 2,000 years of music, and that was something that was such an achievement that was really striking.”

Desplat won an Oscar this year for his score for The Grand Budapest Hotel. He was also nominated for his work on The Imitation Game

Disney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
