Adam Sandler plays a fourth-generation cobbler who gains the power to become the people whose shoes he fixes. Sandler is effective as a sad schlub, but director Tom McCarthy (The Station Agent) is less interested in character than in crazy situations. What starts off as a potentially charming fantasy never finds its footing. C
