Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson is on Wednesday’s new episode of Empire with a new song in tow.

People.com exclusively shared the ballad “Remember the Music” on Monday, a track allowing Hudson to flex her pipes to the fullest. Hudson works over a piano-led production with prominent drums underneath, contrasting in an unexpected, pleasant way; it doesn’t hurt that the ex-American Idol contestant is extraordinarily gifted.

” ‘Remember the Music’ truly exemplifies the power that music can have in all of our lives,” Hudson told PEOPLE.

In the season’s 10th episode, Hudson plays Michelle, who forms a new musical relationship with eldest son Andre (Trai Byers), the only son of Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) who isn’t directly in the music business.

Also in this episode: Mary J. Blige playing a woman from Lucious’ past. Whoever she is, Cookie’s (Taraji P. Henson) reaction to Blige’s arrival should be the highlight of the hour.

Lee Daniels and Danny Strong created this Fox drama about a kingpin of hip-hop (played by Terrence Howard) and his family, who fight him for control of the empire.
