When Lady Sif returns to Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., viewers will get to see a new side to the Asgardian warrior. That’s because Sif (Jaimie Alexander) shows up with a severe case of amnesia, causing her to wreak havoc on earth as she seeks out a super-powered foe.

“She’s found without her armor, so that’s definitely a first for us to show her in that fish-out-of-water way, kind of like Thor was in Thor,” Alexander tells EW. “It’s a huge mystery and it all ties in together as it does in the Marvel Universe.”

Let it be known, however, that just because she’s lost her memory does not mean Sif’s no longer formidable. “She remembers how to fight, but she has no idea that she is a famed warrior,” Alexander says. “It’s very confusing. There are so many details that are missing, like she’ll remember her upbringing, but not specifics. There’s room for some humor with this, definitely. She’s very determined to figure out why she is where she is.”

“Also, Coulson shows her pictures of herself from her last visit to Midgard, so it’s very confusing for her to see herself that way and say, ‘Well, why am I not like that now? I’m very confused,'” Alexander continues. “There’s a sweetness there and a vulnerability to Sif that we haven’t gotten to see a lot of yet, and also Coulson wanting to help her is very sweet, in a way.”

But Sif might not be so sweet if she finds out the truth that Skye (Chloe Bennet) is an Inhuman. Skirting the question of whether Sif will ultimately go after Skye—as the promos insinuate—Alexander offers: “With a couple situations throughout the episode, Sif does not agree with Coulson. That presents a very large problem, especially when she regains her memory.”

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
