Netflix is adding another scripted series to its roster, picking up The OA, a new drama series starring writer/actress Brit Marling.

The OA will be co-written by Marling and Zal Batmanglij who will also serve as director. The series will debut eight one-hour long episodes exclusively on Netflix in 2016.

“We are thrilled to be the home of the first television series Brit and Zal create together,” Cindy Holland, Vice President of Original Content at Netflix said in a release. “Whether in front of or behind the camera, or both, their creative voice is always uniquely captivating.”

This is not the first project Marling and Batmanglij have worked on as the two collaborated for 2011’s Sound of My Voice and 2013’s The East.

Executive producers of the series include Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner of Plan B Entertainment (12 Years a Slave) and Michael Sugar from Anonymous Content (True Detective).

The OA joins several new projects Netflix has undertaken in the past week, with their announcement of new Leonardo DiCaprio documentaries in the works and the high-profile Beast of No Nation premiering later this year on the streaming site and in select theaters.
