Dan Stevens in negotiations to play the Beast in 'Beauty and the Beast' remake
Looks like Beauty has found her Beast.
Dan Stevens is in negotiations to play the titular Beast in Disney’s live-action remake of its 1991 classic, Beauty and the Beast, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Stevens—whose credits include Downton Abbey, The Guest, and A Walk Among the Tombstones—would star opposite Emma Watson as Belle (aka Beauty). Luke Evans is in talks to play the film’s antagonist, Gaston.
Bill Condon is directing the film, with David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman producing.
Like its predecessor, the remake will tell a tale as old as time: A young woman, Belle, who takes the place of her father as the Beast’s prisoner. Upon falling in love with the Beast, she discovers that he’s actually an enchanted prince.
While Disney has not yet confirmed, Condon told EW in October that the film will be a musical, featuring the film’s original Alan Menken and Howard Ashman songs in addition to new music from Menken.
Update: Emma Watson expressed excitement at the news.
