Mike Epps will be the next Uncle Buck
Mike Epps has been added to the cast of ABC’s all-African-American television remake of Uncle Buck.
Epps will be playing the titular character, originally played by John Candy in the 1989 film, EW confirmed.
In the film, Buck Russell is a childish man who finally grows up when he has to take care of his brother’s kids, but in his own fun-loving way.
In the show Buck’s (Epps) younger brother is Will, who Buck essentially raised when they were kids. Nia Long has been cast as Will’s wife Alexis, the founder of a non-profit for at-risk girls.
The new Buck Russell is described as “a wild and free-wheeling force of nature who has managed to lose every job and every girlfriend he’s ever had, but who still flies through life by the seat of his pants, never knowing what tomorrow will bring.”
Steven Cragg and Brian Bradley will write and executive produce ABC’s Uncle Buck along with Will Packer. Phil Traill will direct.
