The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. face life-and-death situations each week on the ABC drama, protecting the Marvel cinematic universe in both big and small ways.

Before S.H.I.E.L.D. makes its midseason return tonight, however, Agent Simmons herself, Elizabeth Henstridge, stopped by EW to take on an even bigger threat—the blue shell.

Henstridge sat down to discuss the S.H.I.E.L.D. season so far and what lies ahead… or at least, tried to discuss while avoiding banana peels in Mario Kart 8. The S.H.I.E.L.D. star spoke about Simmons’ arc this season, how the cast cools down after filming the show’s tensest moments, and her history with Marvel comics.

Watch as Henstridge discusses the show, all while playing through a few rounds of Mario Kart madness—and proving that she is actually much better at playing Mario Kart under pressure than I am, at least if the end-of-race results are any indication.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs on ABC on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET.
