Julie Plec, best known for being an executive producer on both The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, is well on her way to further expanding her CW legacy. Plec’s latest pilot, Cordon, has officially cast its leads. Moreover, Cordon‘s casting ushers in the first black leading duo for a CW drama.
The show, which Plec will executive produce alongside David Nutter, takes viewers inside Atlanta after a deadly epidemic breaks out and a large city quarantine is enforced, leaving some people stuck inside. Cordon, which is based on the original Belgian series, is about people being torn apart and how society reacts.
Below, meet the cast—featuring Interstellar alum David Gyasi and a familiar face for Vampire Diaries fans—along with character descriptions from the network.
David Gyasi as Major Alex “Lex” Carnahan: Atlanta police major Lex Carnahan is a resolute, loyal and good-hearted police officer who’s responsible for maintaining the cordoned area. A “get it done” kind of guy whose devotion to his girlfriend is rivaled by his sense of duty, he must constantly choose between what’s right and what’s necessary.
Christina Moses as Jana: Lex’s capable girlfriend, who’s trapped inside the Cordon in an Atlanta office high-rise. Clever enough to avoid the risks of infection, she becomes an ardent leader and enforcer of protocols within the crumbling quarantined society.
Kristen Gutoskie as Katie Frank: A twenty-something grade-school teacher and single mother who’s trapped inside the walls of Atlanta Midtown Hospital (ground zero for research on the deadly virus) with her class, Katie does everything in her power to protect her students.
Chris Wood as Jake: A former renegade turned cop, Lex’s best friend Jake finds himself trapped inside the cordon—and although his first instinct is to save himself, he finds himself there for the ones who need him most when the situation escalates.
