Eddie Redmayne won Best Actor for his portrayal of physicist Stephen Hawking at Sunday night’s Academy Awards. It’s the actor’s first nomination, and his first win.

Redmayne said he was “fully aware” that he was “a lucky, lucky man” before stopping to squeal with glee.

He dedicated his award to everyone around the world struggling with ALS. He then humbly referred to himself as his award’s “custodian,” promising to take care of the award for all those who worked to bring The Theory of Everything to life, and thanked the Hawking family as well as his own.

Redmayne recently spoke to EW with costar Felicity Jones about the love story at the heart of The Theory of Everything; take a look below.
