Oscars 2015: 'Big Hero 6' filmmakers feel the 'Frozen' pressure backstage
Last year, Frozen won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film along with Best Original Song. Not to mention, it was a huge pop-culture phenomenon.
Needless to say, there was a lot of pressure for the Disney films that followed.
But Don Hall, Chris Williams and Roy Conli followed it up just fine Sunday night when Big Hero 6 won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. Still, they are very familiar with the Frozen pressure. “Can we finally say that we did feel pressure,” Hall asked in the press room, jokingly. “Because we’ve been saying that we didn’t.”
Jokes aside, Hall appreciated the collaborative process. “We were all thrilled by the success of Frozen because we all kind of work on each other’s films. Chris actually storyboarded on Frozen and did the voice of Oaken. We all contributed, just like Chris [Buck] and Jen [Lee], the directors of that movie contributed, giving us notes and stuff like that. We all have ownership over everybody’s films.”
Conli echoed. “We have such a team at Disney animation right now,” he said. “It’s an amazing team that works together on every project. I looked at [Frozen] as just an inspiration.”
