Kristen Stewart became the first American actress to a win a Cesar award at France’s most prominent film awards show on Friday.

Stewart took home the French honor for her supporting role in Clouds of Sils Maria, directed by Olivier Assayas, which premiered at Cannes last year.

Juliette Binoche and Chloë Grace Moretz also starred, with Binoche portraying an actress who appears in a revival of the play that launched her career 20 years ago.

The film was nominated for six Cesars, including best actress for Binoche.

Sean Penn also received an honorary Cesar at the ceremony.
