There aren’t many bands who’d name check Ace of Base and new-wave B-listers The Motels on their list of inspirations, and probably fewer who are capable of mixing those influences into something people would want to listen to. But L.A.’s Professor Possessor actually makes it work—their new single “Passion” sets big hooks adrift in a cloud bank of ethereal synth pads that conjure up a potent New Romantic swoon.

“Passion” appears on the band’s new Mystics and Passion EP available now.
