Oscar-winning actress Marcia Gay Harden has been cast in the CBS pilot Code Black based on Ryan McGarry’s 2013 documentary of the same name, EW has confirmed.

Written by Michael Seitzman and directed by David Semel, the pilot is set in one of the busiest ER’s in the nation, LA County Hospital, as the staff face a broken system in order to protect their ideals and their patients.

Harden will play the role of Christa, a soccer mom-turned-doctor whose son lost his battle with cancer. Her son’s case, along with her intuition and life experience, give her the ability to see things her younger fellow residents just might miss.

Harden is currently guest-starring on ABC’s How to Get Away with Murder and can be seen in Fifty Shades of Grey as Christian Grey’s mother.
