Game of Thrones

One year ago, HBO announced a bold new musical tie-in for its hit series Game of Thrones. As a television series about power, sex, and dragons, the network believed that nothing would be more fitting for paying musical tribute to the show’s universe than a rap mixtape. Titled Catch the Throne and featuring artists like Common and Big Boi, the 10-track mixtape was full of iconic soundbites and music samples over which Big Boi would rap about “Targaryen, the rightful bloodline,” so it’s probably safe to say he’s not a fan of House Stark.

Since HBO seems to believe Game of Thrones is Scarface for a new generation, it’s doing it again: Next month, the network will release Catch the Throne: The Mixtape Vol. 2 for free online, featuring artists like Snoop Dogg, Method Man, and Killswitch Engage, for some reason.

“It’s like the rap game,” said Snoop Dogg in a press release. “It’s gangster; about family, loyalty and trying to get to the top.”

Someone get to work on an Empire/GoT mashup right away.
