For the first time in the U.S., fans will get to see the horror of Katniss’ experiences during a Hunger Games movie in 3D. Lionsgate announced today that Mockingjay—Part 2 will be released in IMAX 3D.

While both The Hunger Games and Catching Fire had IMAX releases, the first part of Mockingjay did not. However, a 3D version of Mockingjay—Part 1 will be released in China Feb. 8. “I’m thrilled Mockingjay – Part 2 will be in IMAX theaters,” director Francis Lawrence said in a statement. “Fans will now have the chance to see the film in any format they want, which is exciting; we recently saw the 3-D version of Mockingjay – Part 1 before its release in China, and the new level of immersion was really fantastic.”

Gary Ross, who directed the first installment of the series before Lawrence took over for Catching Fire and the rest of the franchise, was resistant to 3D. He told MTV that he wouldn’t shoot Catching Fire in 3D: “I don’t think it’s appropriate for this film. I think that if we shoot this movie in 3D, we become the Capitol. We start making spectacle out of something that I don’t think is really appropriate here.”

Mockingjay—Part 2 is released domestically Nov. 20.
