John Mayer took over hosting duties on Wednesday evening’s The Late Late Show, and he kicked off the epsode by interviewing (or rather, trying to interview) some extra-special guests: the dancing sharks from Katy Perry’s Super Bowl halftime show.

The cartoonish sharks quickly went viral after Sunday’s show, spawning multiple blog posts, memes, and even a tattoo in one impulsive fan’s case—so, understandably, Mayer wanted to ask them how it felt to be instant media sensations. His question was shot down, though, by a “marine biologist” playing a baby-sitter of sorts to the sharks: “They can’t talk, John,” he said. “They’re sharks, they’re not dolphins.”

The interview ended with Mayer and the shark handler dancing—but, sadly, the sharks themselves didn’t join them. Apparently they won’t do it for less than $100,000, because even sharks have standards, it seems.
