Look who’s coming to Gotham: Milo Ventimiglia (Heroes and the upcoming series The Whispers) has joined the Fox drama for what’s described as a major, multiple-episode recurring arc that’s going to propel the show’s storyline through its final epiosdes of the season.

Ventimiglia has an intruging role that’s a bit different than the rogues gallery of characters we’ve seen so far. His character is Jason Lennon and he’s described as a handsome, wealthy and seductive serial killer who has been preying on the young women of Gotham City for nearly a decade. We’re told Lennon has been “luring women into his web and confronting them with a series of ‘tests’ as he searches for his perfect mate. When the women fail to live up to his impossible standard, Lennon disposes of them quickly and viciously.” So it’s sort of like 50 Shades of Death

The character’s nickname is The Orge, but note that it’s not based on the DC Comics character with that name. He will first appear in the 19th episode. Fox hints that Lennon’s murderous spree, “combined with Gordon’s determination to bring him down, send both Gordon and Lennon — and those around them — on a course toward tragedy.”

So naturally you wonder: Could this character turn into The Joker? I would bet against it since showrunner Bruno Heller has said we’ll see just the barest hint of that iconic Batman-verse character this season, and Lennon is considered a major role. The better question might be about that “… course toward tragedy” tease. That sounds like network-speak for “somebody gets killed off.” If so, who do you think it is?

Ben McKenzie and David Mazouz star in a dramatic look at what Gotham City looked like before Bruce Wayne became Batman.
