At a press conference yesterday Katy Perry announced that along with previously announced special guest Lenny Kravitz, there would be a surprise appearance by a performer she described as “a throwback of sorts.” The Associated Press reports that, according to an anonymous source, that guest will be Missy Elliott, who appeared on a 2011 remix of Perry’s “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.).”

Despite her unavoidable media presence at the turn of the millennium, Elliott has been laying low in recent years. Despite occasional rumors about the release of a new studio album, she hasn’t dropped an LP since 2005’s The Cookbook, and her output in the current decade has been moslty limited to guest features and collaborations with her protege Sharaya J.
