Elijah Wood to produce 'grotesquely hilarious' 'The Greasy Strangler'
Elijah Wood’s horror movie company SpectreVision has joined forces with Drafthouse Films, Rook Films, and Timpson Films to produce The Greasy Strangler, it was announced today. The movie is directed by first-time filmmaker Jim Hosking, who previously oversaw one of the tales in the recent anthology film ABCs of Death 2.
According to the official synopsis, The Greasy Strangler concerns a character called Ronnie, who “runs a Disco Walking tour in L.A. along with his browbeaten son, Brayden. When a sexy, alluring woman comes to take the tour, it begins a competition between father and son for her attentions. It also signals the appearance of an oily, slimy inhuman maniac who stalks the streets at night and strangles the innocent, soon dubbed ‘The Greasy Strangler.’ ” The film will be produced by Wood and SpectreVision co-founders Daniel Noah, Josh C. Waller, along with Andrew Starke of Rook Films and Timpson Films founder Ant Timpson. Kill List director Ben Wheatley and Drafthouse Films’ Tim League will serve as executive producers. The Greasy Strangler is written by Hosking and Toby Harvard.
“When Ant Timpson sent us Jim and Toby’s script, we all agreed that it was the most disgusting, vile, and all-around grotesquely hilarious piece of cinema we’d ever read, with imagery we will likely never dislodge from our tender, greasy brains,” Wood said in a statement. “And that is why it must exist!”
Casting is currently underway for the film, which will begin shooting in L.A. this spring.
