Between getting sampled by Kanye, landing a role on Sons of Anarchy, and the ongoing revival of all things ’90s, Marilyn Manson’s well situated for a comeback, and his upcoming LP The Pale Emperor (due out Jan. 20 and available for pre-order on iTunes and Amazon) seems capable of delivering it. Eschewing the ambitious conceptual angle that defined his recent output, the album is a return to form that seems designed to hit all the crucial MM pleasure points. Case in point: the new single “Cupid Carries a Gun” (which you might recognize from the opening credits to Salem), a dirge-pop ditty that leans heavy on the stomping glam-turned-goth drumming and phantasmagoric growl of his biggest and best past efforts while throwing a little bluesy acoustic guitar into the mix.
