Guillermo del Toro’s long, long-gestating fantasy project A Killing on Carnival Row has finally found a home—and a new name.
EW has confirmed that Amazon is teaming with Legendary to release Carnival Row as a TV series. A Killing on Carnival Row was originally picked up by New Line as a feature film with Del Toro on board back in 2005, but it stalled in production and he ultimately left the project. While other directors stepped up to the helm, the project failed to gain serious traction again.
The original A Killing on Carnival Row script is set in a fantasy city inhabited by humans, fairies, elves and vampires. It centers on a detective who finds himself at the center of an investigation into the murder of these mythical creatures.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, who first reported the news, Del Toro will direct the pilot this Spring, which he will co-write with Travis Beacham and Rene Echevarria. He will executive produce the series with and Gary Ungar, according to THR.
