Watch Eddie Redmayne re-create his 'Hobbit' and 'Oliver!' auditions
Eddie Redmayne shared some awkward, adorable, and awkwardly adorable audition stories when he stopped by The Graham Norton Show. The star of The Theory of Everything demonstrated just how poorly his audition for the lead role in The Hobbit franchise went, and it’s best to just watch, because it involves a a funny voice and hand gestures.
But Redmayne also told the story of an audition that went somewhat more successfully. Redmayne only played “Workhouse Boy #46” in Sam Mendes’s production of Oliver!, despite wanting to play a member of the gang. However, he an audition to the song “Consider Yourself,” and still recalls the knee-slapping dance, which he then demonstrated for Norton and a bemused Anna Kendrick.
So, perhaps this is just a good reminder that Eddie Redmayne has faced humilation just like the rest of us.
