For the eighth consecutive year, the delightfully unpredictable Kathy Griffin joined Anderson Cooper to co-host CNN’s live New Year’s Eve special. Whether she’s kissing Anderson’s crotch or making him giggle uncontrollably, Kathy knows how to keep the newsman on his toes. This year was no different; here’s a highlight video followed by our live blog breakdown.

12:04 a.m. Anderson and Kathy wish everyone a happy New Year; he says he wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. See, he does like Kathy’s jokes and pranks. Giggles=love

12:00 a.m. CNN does way too many close-ups of random crowd kisses.

11:56 p.m. Second musical performance of the night: OAR. If you wanted more music, you were watching the wrong channel tonight. Ryan Seacrest has that locked up over on ABC.

11:47 p.m. “If Demi Lovato shows up, I gotta go.” —Kathy Griffin, who inspires hate tweets from Lovatics

11:45 p.m. Anderson has no opinion on young celebrity couples. But, reminder: He still loves “Shake it Off.”

11:37 p.m. Richard Quest is the best. And allegedly sober—his campaign for 2016 co-host continues.

11:30 p.m. Trusting Kathy, Anderson closes his eyes and leans forward. (Why would you trust her Anderson?) She takes blue and red hair paint to turn him into a human flag. And if he fights it, then she says he doesn’t love America. Well played, Kathy.

11:19 p.m. Kathy explains for the third time why she’s wearing a fur coat (in memory of Joan Rivers, who was given the coat by Dennis Basso). Anderson says he thinks she shouldn’t wear fur. She agrees. Twitter discusses.

11:11 p.m. Kathy quizzes Anderson about how much a stamp costs. He may know the answer, but instead of answering he giggles, hugs her, and whispers “I love you, but really I hate your guts” into her ear.

11:06 p.m. CNN can’t stop asking people about their bathroom habits. We get it: People in Times Square can’t go anywhere for hours.

10:50 p.m. Anderson blows the lid on the NYE specials: “DCP” (Dick Clark Productions) has table readings and run-throughs before the big night; Kathy and Anderson do it on the fly the night of. Never would have guessed.

10:45 p.m. Kathy says she’s never had a drink—ever. And apparently she’s not joking.

10:38 p.m. Randi Kaye goes behind the bar in the Bahamas… mostly just to promote Patrón and Moët? (That IRL bartender’s got nothing on the bionic one.) Then she gets caught in a mosh pit before showcasing the cruise’s rum cake—which features this iconic photo.

10:24 p.m. THERE ARE BIONIC BARTENDERS. I’m booking a cruise to the Bahamas stat.

10:18 p.m. Don Lemon talks about his giant beaded necklace: “Do you know what I had to do to get these?” Don, leave the dirty jokes to Kathy.

10:09 p.m. Anderson uses the “I Apologize” sign for the third time—this time for Kathy and Richard.

10:06 p.m. Kathy kisses Richard under the mistletoe, which he brought to the stage. CNN, may we suggest three hosts for New Year’s Eve Live 2016?

10:02 p.m. Kathy does the slow clap for Richard Quest after he interviews the Times Square audience about their bathroom habits; he gets a coveted invite to the stage to join the hosts.

9:55 p.m. Kathy disses the network she’s on, and Anderson declines to tell her his opinion on other CNN shows. (How does this woman keep getting asked back?)

9:50 p.m. “J.Crew is awesome.” —Anderson Cooper, turtleneck promoter

9:33 p.m. A clip from Today! The Musical is shown. Watch the full video here. Thank me later.

9:27 p.m. The “I apologize” sign—a sign written exclusively for the comedienne—is used for the second time in the evening.

9:25 p.m. Kathy is quizzing Anderson on sports. His biggest question: When people talk about “the game,” how do people know what game it is? Valid question, Anderson.

9:19 p.m. Anderson proudly admits he loves “Shake it Off.” Also, he doesn’t know who Tony Romo is.

9:12 p.m. Kathy announces Taylor Swift will be a guest in 15 minutes. (She’s lying.) Anderson giggles. We’re in for a long night of giggling—no complaints here.

9:05 p.m. Kathy announces that she’s wearing her late friend Joan Rivers’ coat—and she’s not apologizing for the fur.

9:03 p.m. Other reporters are introduced from remote locations, including Patrick Oppmann, who is in Havana, Cuba.

9:00 p.m. Anderson Cooper kicks off the show with Kathy Griffin interrupting him. And making fun of him for his L’Uomo cover shoot. We’re off to a good start.
