With Justin Lin now on board to direct, production seems to be moving ahead in Paramount’s Star Trek 3, as the studio has now given the film a firm release date.

EW can confirm that Star Trek 3 will release on July 8, 2016. The threequel is currently the only major film scheduled for that date, opening a week after Steven Spielberg’s The BFG and Warner Bros.’ take on Tarzan, and a week before the fifth Ice Agei film releases.

The 2016 date will allow the film to coincide with the franchise’s 50-year anniversary, as the original Star Trek series debuted in 1966.

The news comes shortly after Lin joined the production as director, replacing Roberto Orci, who will still stay on to produce alongside the director of the last two Star Trek films, J.J. Abrams.
