Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj doesn’t shy away from her more serious side on her latest release, The Pinkprint. The rapper also dives fully into the heartache of her most dramatic new tracks with a new short film.

The Pinkprint Movie, which acts as a companion to the album, combines three of its songs for a lengthy music video that tells a single story. It’s split into three chapters, each using a different song from the album—”The Crying Game,” “I Lied,” and “Grand Piano”—to tell a story inspired by The Pinkprint‘s more serious side.

The video stars Minaj and the occasional blatant product placement; its official title is Beats by Dre Presents: The Pinkprint Movie. It begins with the rapper going on an emotional car ride, presumably to escape a troubling relationship.

Minaj isn’t the only artist to recently release a short film in honor of an album’s release. Beyonce, with whom Minaj collaborated on The Pinkprint‘s “Feeling Myself,” debuted a film in honor of her self-titled album’s one-year anniversary.
