Mike Colter tapped to play Luke Cage on Marvel's Netflix series 'Jessica Jones'
Mike Colter has been tapped to play Luke Cage on the upcoming Netflix series Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones.
The series follows the exploits of superhero-turned-private investigator Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), who works on cases involving people with extraordinary abilities. Jones will encounter Cage, a man whose past secrets will dramatically alter Jessica in ways she could never have imagined, according to Marvel.com. In the comics, Cage eventually becomes her husband.
“Mike embodies the strength, edge and depth of Luke Cage,” showrunner Melissa Rosenberg says. “We’re excited to have him bring this iconic Marvel character to life.”
Colter, whose credits include The Following and The Good Wife, is also expected to headline the titular Luke Cage project that will follow the Daredevil (Charlie Cox) and Jessica Jones-centric series. The shows, which will also include one on Iron Fist, who has not yet been cast, will culminate in a Defenders project bringing the four heroes together.
The 13-episode Jessica Jones is expected to premiere in 2015.
