David Schwimmer has joined Ryan Murphy’s miniseries tackling the O.J. Simpson trial.

The Friends and Band of Brothers actor has signed on to play Simpson’s confidant and attorney Robert Kardashian in the first season of FX’s new true-crime anthology series American Crime Story. He’ll appear opposite the previously announced Cuba Gooding Jr. (Simpson) and Sarah Paulson (prosecutor Marcia Clark). Kardashian is the late husband of Kris Kardashian, of Keeping Up with the Kardashians fame.

Written by executive producers Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, directed by Murphy and based on the book The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson by Jeffrey Toobin, the miniseries will chronicle the 1995 Simpson murder trial from perspective of former NFL star’s lawyers. More detail: The miniseries “explores the chaotic behind-the-scenes dealings and maneuvering on both sides of the court, and how a combination of prosecution overconfidence, defense shrewdness, and the LAPD’s history with the city’s African-American community gave a jury what it needed: reasonable doubt.”
