Manu Bennett is going fantasy in his next role.

EW has confirmed that the Arrow star has been cast in a series regular role on MTV’s upcoming fantasy series Shannara.

Bennett has been cast as the druid Allanon, the last of his kind in the fantasy series’ world. Allanon can sense the start of a monumental shift when the wise tree known as Ellcrys begins to die. The Hollywood Reporter first reported the news.

Shannara will be based on a popular series of fantasy novels written by Terry Brooks that began in 1977. The 10-episode series’ first season will be based on The Elfstones of Shannara, the second novel in the series.

Bennett joins Poppy Drayton, who has been cast as Elf Princess Amberle. The series will follow the Shannara family thousands of years after civilization has been destroyed, as the family’s descendants use ancient magic on adventures that alter the future of the world.

The series is written by Smallville‘s Al Gough and Miles Millar, and the first two episodes will be directed by Jonathan Liebesman. He’ll produce alongside Gough, Millar, Brooks, Dan Farah, and Jon Favreau.
