While “All I Want for Christmas Is You” will be played almost nonstop for the next few weeks—which is not necessarily a bad thing—is it time for Mariah Carey to let a new generation take on the Christmas hit?

It might be, if Ariana Grande’s recent performance of the song is any indication.

Grande performed the new classic back in November 2012 at a Los Angeles Christmas tree lighting, but the rendition has resurfaced lately thanks to what’s likely a combination of a collective, undying love for the song and Carey’s recent, bizarre performance of it in New York at the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree lighting ceremony.

Carey, meanwhile, can certainly still tackle her holiday favorite, but she occasionally relies on her backup singers for some of the song’s toughest moments. Here’s this week’s performance of it:

So while a couple of years separate those performance, who hit those blistering high notes better, and who seems to be relying more on their backup singers for support?
