Ryan Reynolds closing a deal to star in 'Deadpool'
We’re moving closer to the reality of a Deadpool movie. EW has confirmed the Deadline report that Ryan Reynolds is close to signing an official deal to reprise his role as superpowered mercenary Wade Wilson. Well, “reprise.” Reynolds briefly played Wilson in the first act of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The character reappeared in the movie’s climax, but that version of “Deadpool” only bore a vague resemblance to the comic book character—and he was also played by a heavily made-up Scott Adkins.
It’s unclear to what extent the new Deadpool movie has anything to do with X-Men Origins: Wolverine—especially since last summer’s Days of Future Past appeared to wipe Origins from the timeline.
We do know that the Deadpool movie is supposedly more in keeping with the tone of the Deadpool comics—a tone that’s pretty well summed up in this leaked test footage, and also in this image of Deadpool speaking to the reader while carving his way out of a dinosaur’s intestine.
Last we heard, the Deadpool movie was slated for February 2016, but expect more updates on this X-Men spinoff soon.
