Netflix jangled the Twitter outrage meter yesterday with an ill-timed promotional tweet.

Peaky Blinders is a British historical crime drama about a gangster (Cillian Murphy) going up against a sadistic cop (Sam Neill). But tweet was made in the middle of protests over a Staten Island grand jury’s decision not to indict a New York officer Daniel Pantaleo in the death of Eric Garner, an unarmed black man who died after the officer put him in a chokehold.

A Netflix source assures the company was not trying to coattail ride a trending news topic, but rather the tweet was a coincidence. Still, some assumed a connection:
