Lana Del Rey’s titular track for Tim Burton’s Big Eyes is here, and it delivers on its Del Rey-ian promise with a dramatic, retro flair.
Lyrically, the song borders on the obvious: In the refrain, Del Rey croons “with your big eyes/and your big lies.” The movie is based on the true story of Margaret Keane (Amy Adams), painter of big-eyed little girls, whose husband passed her work off as his own. Meaning the plot of the film involves both big eyes and big lies.
The song is one of two Del Rey wrote for the movie, and plays midway through the movie. But is it a worthy successor to Del Rey’s “Young and Beautiful,” one that might actually get Del Rey recognition from the Academy?
