Sting is going to try to help save The Last Ship, the Broadway musical for which he wrote music and lyrics.

According to The New York Times, Sting will enter the cast of the show—which has been floundering at the box office—Dec. 9 for a run lasting through Jan. 10. Sting also announced his move on the Today show.

“I’ve been working on this show for five years and been at every rehearsal, every performance, so it’s not like I’ve flown in from Planet Rock Star to save the day,” Sting told the Times. Sting taking over the role of Jackie White, a shipyard foreman, currently played by Jimmy Nail, a friend of Sting’s who told the Times he was “happily” stepping aside for Sting.

The Last Ship takes place in Wallsend in the North East of England, Sting’s hometown.
