'SNL' best host poll: Cameron Diaz crashes the boys club
In the three years EW has been handing out an award for the best Saturday Night Live host, men have dominated the competition. (Though it might be more accurate just to say that Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake have dominated.) Melissa McCarthy has been runner-up twice, but for the most part, guys have topped the weekly polls. As a result, we’ve taken to calling our best-host poll the race for Mr. Saturday Night. But it doesn’t have to be, obviously.
One week after Sarah Silverman was eliminated, Cameron Diaz hosted SNL, and she now faces a quartet of guys, led by Woody Harrelson. Diaz was game, spoon-feeding Baby Boss, grooving with the Yr Girls, and getting her Ms. Hannigan on. Perhaps this season will end with the crowning of the first Ms. Saturday Night.
Last week’s vote:
Woody Harrelson 50.99%
Bill Hader 26.73%
Jim Carrey 13.41%
Chris Pratt 5.42%
Chris Rock 3.45%
Our rules couldn’t be more simple: Who was the best, most memorable host? More specifically, who do you hope gets invited back? Whose hilarious episode enjoyed multiple viewings on your DVR? Whose show had your boss, your mom, and your roommate still giggling on Monday morning? It’s subjective, of course, but let’s reward the guest hosts who brought something special to the table.
So far, we’ve voted off Rock and Sarah Silverman.
Below, I’ve embedded one representative clip from each of the five hosts, just as a small taste of their recent performances. You’re not voting on this one sketch alone; be sure to consider the entire episode. Vote, and the host with the least support will be sent packing; the other four will advance to compete against James Franco on Dec. 6. Ultimately, we’ll eliminate the less memorable hosts and crown a new Mr. or Mrs. Saturday Night next May. Watch and vote below.
