Jimmy Fallon’s lip-sync battles have become one of his most recognizable and anticipated segments. Now, Spike TV is turning those intermittent appearances on Late Night and The Tonight Show into a series.
As Fallon announced Thursday on The Tonight Show, Spike has ordered Lip Sync Battle, based on the late-night game. Fallon had Stephen Merchant, who claims to only be recognized for his lip sync skills, on his show on Nov. 20 where the two made the announcement.
Fallon, Merchant, and The Office‘s John Krasinski will executive produce the show along with Matador. While the host and celebrities set to compete will be announced in the coming weeks, Fallon, Krasinski, and Merchant will all at some point appear and perform on the series.
Lip Sync Battle will film in New York and is set to premiere on April 2, 2015—so fear not, the show is not an elaborate April Fools’ Day prank.
And for those who need a reminder of just how great the battles have been in Fallon’s hands—and what the show has to live up to—the Stephen Merchant, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Fallon battle is still one of the show’s best.
