Just when you thought you’d seen every possible variation on the vampire tale, along comes an Iranian bloodsucker romance set to spaghetti-Western music. Shot in inky black and white, Ana Lily Amirpour’s fractured Farsi fright flick has a spooky, otherworldly quality. It’s like an early Jim Jarmusch indie set in Little Tehran at 4 a.m. It’s all a bit too slow and slack, but the image of a female vampire clad in a black hijab is one you won’t soon forget. And I can’t wait to see the director’s next film. B-
