Style blogger, magazine editor, fashion icon, actress, incipient voice-of-a-generation: Tavi Gevinson has established herself as a leading multihyphenate creative voice in the digital era, and that was all before she added “high school graduate” to her resumé.

After rising to prominence as a teenager with her blog The Style Rookie, Gevinson launched Rookie, an online culture mag geared towards teenage girls, in the spirit of the fondly remembered teen alt-mag Sassy. This year, Gevinson made her Broadway debut, opposite Michael Cera and Kieran Culkin, in the revival of Kenneth Lonergan’s This Is Our Youth.

I sat down with Gevinson to talk about her beginnings as a writer, and the transition into acting, for an episode of EW’s new interview series Lightbulb. We also talked about her dream Rookie piece: An interview between Lorde and Kanye West.

Episodes of Lightbulb explore where today’s leading creators find inspiration and what motivates them. We also ask our guests a series of Lightning Round This-or-That questions. See below!
