John Oliver appears as if from nowhere and hosts 'The Daily Show'
John Oliver has proven that he can host The Daily Show, but that doesn’t mean fans were expecting him to show up and take over last night’s show. And yet, when Jon Stewart decided he was a little uncomfortable hosting a show about his own film, Rosewater, he took out his Queen Elizabeth teapot, gave it a little rub, and out popped a British genie that looked a lot like John Oliver.
Of course, Oliver was a correspondent and writer on the show from 2006 to 2013 and guest-hosted during the summer of 2013 when Stewart was directing Rosewater, so it made sense that Stewart trusted him to interview Maziar Bahari, the journalist at the center of Stewart’s film. Rosewater tells the story of how Bahari was arrested and tortured in Iran.
By the end of the show, it’s safe to say a lot of people were hoping a Stewart-Oliver duo would become a regular thing.
